Accomplishment
For the past week we have mostly been living off bread and potatoes. Not the best way to start a New Year diet I have to agree but I haven't really had any money for food shopping since I finished off all the food from the Christmas hamper. Also I decided that as I didn't have the money to fill the freezer, I should take the opportunity to defrost it and give it a really good clean out.
Last night I got out me marigolds and gave the whole of the fridge freezer a bloody good scrub down. Every nook and cranny - nothing was untouched. At the end of it I felt a great feeling of accomplishment as the whole thing looked brand new. Today I went to Iceland and blasted my budget to fill it all up again. You could tell the difference as I spent £10 more than usual and there was still gaps and I could easily have got a few more things in. Where as it used to be a case of putting some things in the fridge and having to use them up as soon as possible.
Sacrifices and Compromise.
An update on the England ticket situation - Unfortunately we won't be going after all as I have had my holiday confirmation through today and I am going to have to use the money I put aside for the footie to pay the balance of the holiday. I don't mind though. I think DD is a bit disappointed as she and her friend were looking forward to it but she will appreciate the holiday more and there will be other games I am sure.
My life back please!
So Celebrity Big Brother is over and Shilpa has won SURPRISE SURPRISE! I am sorry for the cynical postings from the other night where I just copied from news pages but I couldn't be bothered to write my own feelings.
I really liked Shilpa at the beginning and I don't even dislike her now but I have to say that Ch4 really went way over the line when they brought in the Goody's. It was a stupid Idea from the start. The group had started to form a great bond and bringing in Jade just spoilt the whole spirit of the thing.
OK so they maybe could have brought her in for 1 night but no I am sorry but my whole experience was ruined. The day they brought Jade in they may as well have ended the game then and given the crown to Shilpa as it was more or less fixed from then on.
On the night, Shilpa gave it all this "I want to move on" and "Its all a furor over nothing" but I see in the papers today that she has changed her tune. Just as Jade did between coming out and her big interview.
I am just so glad to get my life back now. I am going to start tomorrow with a massive Who marathon watching the Box set that I had for Christmas. Then it's Nanny McPhee and my XBox. really looking forward to getting back to my Urbz game!

Jermaine Takes Silver!
Day 26, 21:21
The wise man of the House leaves in 2nd place...
He entered the House first, but Jermaine wasn't quite the last to leave as you voted him Celebrity Big Brother 5 runner-up with 37% of the vote.
He nobly accepted the news of Shilpa's victory, hugging and congratulating her. Miraculously, his ear drums were still intact after Shilpa's piercing screaming!

Shilpa wins the CBB crown

By MELISSA KENT
January 28, 2007
BOLLYWOOD beauty Shilpa Shetty has been crowned the winner of Celebrity Big Brother 5.
The elegant actress won the public's affection during an extraordinary four weeks in which she was the victim of alleged racist bullying by fellow housemates Jade Goody, Jo O'Meara and Danielle Lloyd.
She was crowned the winner after Jermaine Jackson, Dirk Benedict, Ian H Watkins, Danielle Lloyd and Jack Tweed were all evicted during tonight's series final.
Shilpa screamed with surprise and burst into tears as Davina McCall announced the news.
"Chicken curry rules! Thank you so much!" she yelled as she was led out of the house by Davina.
Told of the international incident which had erupted outside the house, Shilpa said she had an "inkling" it was over the racism issue.
The big-hearted actress looked stunned as she watched footage of Jade, Jo and Danielle mimicking her accent, swearing and abusing her behind her back.
But she down-played the vicious and petty attack, excusing Jade and her gang of followers of racist behaviour.

E4 Skins

As usual with any new series coming to the channel, E4 have been pushing this to the hilt. With ads and trailers in every single ad break for the past 4 weeks it was time to see if the product could hold up to its hype.
The answer was for episode 1 at least a resounding YES!. OK so it probably isn't aimed at aging 36 yr old single mums like myself but I really loved it. I read a comment on UnofficialMills about it being an updated "As if" and that was what I was expecting. It was made my the makers of "Shameless" but I think it was a cross between As If and the Hollyoaks late night shows (Let loose and In the city)
The show is set around a group of teenagers from Bristol, The leader being Tony The best-looking, most popular boy in town, Tony's a born leader, always whipping his crew off on a new mission. Always at someone else's expense.
Tony is played by Nicholas Hoult who, if you think you recognise him, was the young Marcus in About a boy.
To go along with the show E4 have a great website where you can watch extra unseen footage of the show each week and they also have a Myspace page.
What makes Skins so unique is that E4 have given everyone the opportunity to contribute to the show. You can see some of the best short films, music, logo designs and fashion designs at www.e4.com/skins. Also check out the winners!
I will definitely be watching the next episode!
1 thing that was annoying about the whole thing was that they had to put Big Brother's Big mouth back an hour for it. Usually Russel is on straight after the catch up show but he was delayed an hour. For that I don't know why they didn't start Skins next week when BB is all over and done with!

Just a huge palava
Today - Thanks to Colin Gibson on Radio Derby - I was reminded that the England U21s are going to be playing against Spain in 1 week here at Pride Park Stadium and I haven't even thought about tickets. Way back at the end of last year when it was announced, my sister asked if we wanted her to get us tickets but now as she has made it perfectly clear she wants nothing more to do with us I guess she hasn't got us tickets after all.
I got onto the DCFC site immediately to make sure there were some left and there I wished I hadn't bothered.
First of all you have to register for the site so I did that. Then you have to wait for confirmation that you are eligible to buy tickets. When you have got that email you then have to apply to be able to buy tickets and then when you get your number and password you can finally purchase game tickets.
Well I still haven't received my confirmation email after 10 hours. So now I am looking at making the trek to Pride Park on Wednesday to buy tickets for Me DD, DS and DD's friend. I am not really that fussed now but I made a promise to them that we could go so I can't break my promise just cos I forgot all about it.
It is a couple of years now since England played here. It is most remembered cos my sister was pregnant at the time and DNiece is now 2.

I only went a bloody done it!
Sorry I haven't posted in the last week but I have been totally absorbed in the Sims. So much so that I finally went and finished the 2 tasks I was stuck on. It is so easy when you realise where you were going wrong.
I identified the beast and zapped her but then I had to give her a load of money to go off and get Anger management. My next goal was to do the kine ritual (Cow dance) and I finally completed that after several tries and my Sim wetting himself.
However my Sim has died since and although given a second chance by the Grim Reaper it means I have to make sacrifices.
I am rewarding myself with a few days off of the game now as I have quite a few vids on there to watch including 2 episodes of Bones, a couple of episodes of Family guy, American Dad, Calcium kid and Much ado about nothing. I did have a Doctor Who montage on as well but it was looking a bit weird that I had 3 videos with Billie Piper in.
I am also looking forward to the final of CBB. It is getting ridiculous now. Jo and Cleo are out tonight so poor little Danielle Lloyd is all on her own. Maybe her and Jack will finally get it on and make the break up with Oh Teddy Teddy so much easier.

You obsessed over The Sims - Now it's Sims 2 baby!!!

Back in the beginning of the Millennium (sounding good so far) I spent many a night sat up playing The Sims. It was just a game of endless fun for me. I loved buying houses and doing them up and expanding my families. Then I got onto downloading extra stuff and then even making my own characters and furniture which was amazing.
The Sims has now evolved however and it is the age of Sims 2 which is a whole new ball game. (Well not really as there are no balls in it but you get the idea)
Ever since I got my Pink PSP I have been playing DD's Sims2 game (She finished it ages ago) and it is driving me up the wall. I am able to figure out most stuff for myself but now I am stuck on 2 tasks and I am going slowly mad over it.
Firstly there is the issue of the Night Beast. I know who it is but I'll be ducked if I can't bloomin' catch the thing. You get to make her angry and shoot her with the taser but I am now losing the will to live as she just won't curl up and die.
My other stumbling block is that damned Cow dance ritual. ARGH!!!! If only I could use a cheat code...but I have always frowned on DS when he uses them so I have vowed to do this myself...even if I do end up throwing the thing out the window!!!

This week's movie - The Girl Next Door

As I have said before, On a Sunday DD and I like to sit down and watch a DVD.
This weeks offering was The girl next door.
I thought this was your average Teen coming of age movie but it was a whole lot more adult than that. Yes it had the usual girl meets boy element but there was a lot more swearing and gratuitous sex than I had imagined. I realised though by the end of it, I didn't feel as uncomfortable watching it with my 14 yr old daughter than I might have done. I used to really shy away from anything that had any kind of swearing or even minor nudity as It made me feel quite uncomfortable and embarrassed. However I have come to terms with the fact that swearing is a part of life in general. God knows all those parties we used to go to, we would be the only ones in the room who didn't say the F word at least every 2 sentences.
I realise though that It was when I was just 14 that I used to watch the Popsicle movie with my mum. I am sure she must have felt a little uncomfortable watching them with me as they were a lot more adult orientated than anything I have watched so far with my daughter.
Back to the film itself.
The story basically is about a Boy who is about to graduate from school and a new girl moves in next door. They become friends and quickly he falls for her then he finds out she is a big porno star. Very funny and worth a second watch in my opinion.

What time do you call this to get up?
I can't believe that I slept right through to 1.30pm today. I have stayed in bed late on Saturdays and Sundays but usually because I am just too lazy to get out of bed. Today though I didn't wake at all before 1.30. It must be staying up every night watchin the BB coverage that has done it.
I only have E4+1 in my room so I can only start watching the streaming in bed an hour later. I know that a lot of the time the sound is out but I have that thing that I don't want to miss anything as it is usually late at night when they are drunk that the best stuff happens.
I think I usually stay up until around 2.30am and then my alarms goes off again at 4.30am I guess I had a lot of cathing up to do.
Just on the topic of BB. Now that Jade is out things in the house will be a lot better and I predict that Jack will be out next. Mainly because the housemates will nominate him as they will think he is missing Jade and the public don't like him much...Unless Jack has a game plan which I have been toying with over the last 24 hours.
I know I am a copycat but as an Idea I got from Aled Jones www.aledhaydnjones.com I have now added a forum so you can discuss topics in my blog as well as just generaly chat about stuff.
Please join up here and get chatting..I miss that the most since I closed down Griffinchat!

Tonight's BB eviction
How on earth did all this happen?
No Audience and No Press conference. So who ever does go out (Probably Jade) won't even get the chance to hold their head high for the public and give their side of the story
A whole load of rubbish if you ask me. Yes some harsh things were said but when people are so different that they clash in every way, it is bound to be stormy. I saw no racism and in the stuff that I saw, Shilpa gave as good as she got!!

Nominations Announced to the House
Day 17, 10:58
Jade and Shilpa get the bad news...
The housemates have been told that Jade and Shilpa are this week's nominees.
Neither nominee looked surprised when the news came, although Jade couldn't hide her disappointment when her name was called first. She winced at the verdict, while boyfriend Jack also looked crestfallen.
As the pause between her name and Shilpa's dragged, the giggling actress gave Jade's arm an affectionate tug. Jade giggled too, but she seemed far from happy. When the second and final name was finally announced Shilpa continued to laugh it off.
"I knew I'd be up," said Jade.
"Me too," said Shilpa.
"Whoever goes will be happy, and they can sleep in their own bed," chirped the ever-optimistic Ian.
"Yeah," agreed Jade, adding: "And when I find out who nominated me, I won't speak to them ever again."
It wasn't totally clear if it was a joke or serious.. or a threat or a promise.
But will Jade find out tonight, or can her stay in the House be extended?

Honey to the Bee that's you for me

You may have heard that the UK Chart rules have changed. From the beginning of this year any song that is legally downloaded and paid for can enter the charts.
As I posted yesterday Koopa are the first Unsigned MySpace band to enter the charts on downloaded content alone and this is a great move for bands that struggle to get signed up to big record labels. Now they don't have to to get their music heard by the masses (Even if it is on a Sunday night with JK and Joel.)
With this in Mind Chris Moyles has developed a small experiment to see if he can get a random song into this weeks chart by urging his listeners to download it.
The chosen song is Honey to the Bee by Billie and was first released in 1999.
If you want to take part in Chris' experiment you can download the track for 79p from I-Tunes Here
Alternatively you can go for Comedy Dave's choice which is the karaoke version of Dennis Waterman's I could be so good for you. The theme tune of his 80s TV show Minder (And very well sent up on BBC show Little Britain). You can download that here
At time of Entry, Billie's Honey to the Bee is currently number 15 in the I-Tunes chart

I can't believe I have got so emotionally involved in this again. I thought I was above that these days. My kids were staring at me as I was shouting at the screen at that Shilpa...OOOHHH she makes my blood boil...But i am not here to have a rant otherwise I will send my blood pressure sky high LOL
I have been sitting up every night to watch the late night streaming and it only occured to me when the alarm went off this morning that I had only had 2 and a half hours sleep.
I will be glad when it is over!!

Who on earth is Jennifer Coolidge?
Over the past couple of months DD and I have started watching a DVD of a Sunday afternoon. We have gotten round to seeing quite a few movies that we really wanted to see at the pictures but never got round to going to see them.
Just recently though we have noticed that by a huge coincidence Jennifer Coolidge seems to be starring in every one of them.
I first noticed her in something last year when she played Joey's agent Bobbie in the Matt le Blanc sitcome Joey.
Then I saw her in Cinderella story as the wicked Stepmother.
Of course she was also in Legally Blonde and Legally Blonde 2.
Recently though we have seen her in Click, Date Movie and this week American Dreamz.
I think I am becoming a fan without even trying!
I have found a fansite for Jennifer Here

And the winner is....
I haven't even had chance to mention this year's Soapstar Superstar and tonight was the grand final.
Last year you might remember I posted about Corrie's Richard Fleeshman being the 2006 winner? He was the winner from the start. You could see he was a superstar from the very first note.
This year I thought the same about Emmerdale's Hayley Tammadon
who is better known as Delilah Dingle in the soap. She had everything. The perfect voice the performance and all the star quality. However who would know that on final night she would be pipped to the post by Coronation street's Antony Cotton
better known as Underworld knicker-stitcher Sean Tully.
He is a fantastic showman though and has really worked hard all through the show to come out the Victor!
I think I was supposed to be going out tonight on a Hen night but no one contacted me to let me know the details so I guess that speaks volumes!

Friendship books
About 10 years ago before I discovered computers and the internet I collected penpals almost as obsessively as I collected autographs.
I had almost a hundred people all over the world that I wrote to. Some penpals that I had been writing to since I was a teenager. I had friends that liked Take That who I would swap TT memorabilia with and WWF Wrestling fans who I would swap wrestling stuff with and fellow autograph collectors who I swapped autographs with as well as fellow mums who I would swap baby stories with.
Another item I liked to swap was friendship books.
I would make a little book by sticking about 10 pieces of paper together. Then write my name and address on the front with some details about myself. Then I would send them to my penpals...The journey begins here because then they would fill their name in and send it on and so on until it was full and then the last person to put their name in would send it back to me.
You can imagine there would have been hundreds of these flying all over the world and who knows where.
So imagine my surprise when an envelope popped through the door the other day all the way from Germany. I haven't filled in one of these things since 1997 so it has been making it's way around the world for the last 10 years or lying in someone's inbox.
Now with the Internet and email or even IM it is so much easier to get in touch with people.
I would love to see if I can get in touch with all the people that filled in my FB.
So...
Maxine McKenzie from Lancs
Kerry Richardson from Bucks
Paola Fornari from Italy
Claudia Decker from Germany
Jacqueline Roy from Canada
Tanya Box from Australia
Sandra Podgorseck from Croatia
Laura Pelkey from Philadelphia
Stefanie Neher from Switzerland
Janett March from Germany
And Stephanie Kresner from Germany
If you are out there, please get in touch I would love to hear from you and how you have moved on from when you filled in this Friendship book

When Mum doesn't have to cook
The time has come around again when DS is on the Cookery rotation at school. This Thursday he was learning how to make Shepherds Pie.
Do you know how hard it is to get hold of Lamb mince around these parts? Well after searching high and low I finally got all the ingredients that he needed and was looking forward to the fact that I wouldn't have to plan that evening's meal.
I have to say that it was wonderful. Despite the little strop that DD threw because there were Mushrooms in it I think she enjoyed it too. I was so nice to just put it in the oven to warm up then sit down and eat it. They always say you enjoy something a whole lot more when someone else has cooked it and I think that is true.
It had loads of onion and carrot and Sweetcorn in and also it was very Garlicy. We are big fans of Garlic in this house but there is always a price to pay for that and so time will only tell how many of their friends steered clear today!
There was plenty leftover too so I think we will be stinking of Garlic for at least another day or so.

No I wasn't hearing things
Laura Sayers off of Laura's diary really does have Alistair Griffin's phone number in her phone book.
This led to Scott Mills saying his name over and over on the show today. Then again later during the Honesty game with Colin Murray. I don't think Colin does hate Alistair I think he just hates the reality TV show thing - Then again, He loved it when Edith was on Fame academy didn't he so who knows...maybe Alistair upset him once...
Oh just while I am posting and watching Celeb BB...Someone please get that Bloody Leo Sayer off there...He is doing my nut in...how can they not have killed him by now??

Going out meeting new people and doing the pub quiz.
Part of my New year - New start regime tonight was a night out with fellow Rams fans from the Ramsnet email list.
A special meal as a couple from Germany were over here to celebrate their mum's 93rd birthday. I was terribly nervous as it has been a long time since I went out to meet a load of people I have never seen before. Luckily I was getting a lift to the pub so at least I wouldn't have to walk in by myself.
I was picked up promptly at 7.50pm and the car journey was very pleasant - lots of chat about the area where I live and about Derby in general.
When we arrived at the pub the birthday family were already there. They are a lovely bunch and I was at ease straight away so I felt like I just slotted right in. The pub was the Bonnie Prince which is a huge place with a big indoor kid playing area. I know Ange had been there loads of times but I have never been so yet a new place to experience.
This has to be the first time in a long while that I have been out for a meal without the family. As I looked through the menu I realised that as I was only paying for me on this occasion, I didn't have to think about the budget - then after looking through the menu some more I decided that although others were ordering big steaks and platters, I could only face a Jacket Potato. So I opted for Cajun chicken with Sour cream as the topping mainly because it was the only topping that I wouldn't normally have at home and I wanted something special as I was out for the evening.
As we were waiting for our food they announced the start of the quiz so we thought it would be a laugh to join in. This was, in hindsight, probably a bad idea as the quiz was drawn out right to 11 o'clock and everyone would have liked to have got home earlier on.
Just when you think you know a lot of stuff you realise that everything you know is no good for a pub quiz.
Well I was useless anyway.
First of all the picture question...You know the one where there are 10 pics of celebs and you have to name them. The easiest was probably Sarah Harding and I couldn't even get that. My whole mind went blank...I knew she was from some kind of singing group. 2 of us agonised for ages and ended up with Claire from Steps *Rollseyes* I did get Jeremy Beadle though.
It went downhill from there for me. I knew that Bring it all Back was a hit for S Club 7 and that Robbie supports Port Vale oh and that Superman is afraid of Kryptonite but I didn't know that Poets corner is in Westminster Abbey or that Sir Alf Ramsey was the first player to both captain and manage England.
We wiped out on the last round because we said the drink that had the kick was Babycham and it was in fact Pony. The team whose we were marking also got that wrong so at least that wasn't too bad.
Anyway we didn't win the £100 but I had a great night out and I am sure the first of many more to come. It was 11.15pm when I got home and the children were all tucked up in bed.

Battle of the Celebrity shows
Friday night was a nightmare for reality TV buffs like myself.
First of all for celebrity singing fans, you had to make a choice between Just the 2 of us on BBC or Soapstar Superstar on ITV. For me it was easy I haven't watched any of Just the 2 of us and I had been looking forward to SS from last year. The real confusion for me began when Soapstar finished.
It may surprise a lot of you but I have become hooked on Celebrity Big Brother already even though it only began on Wednesday night. I didn't see the first show as it clashed with The Bill but I started watching the live streaming and I was hooked from there. Although they might be a bunch of Z-listers and you may not have heard of some of them...They are a great crowd and have gelled together already. The intelligence in the house is quite high so there is a lot of great conversations especially with the life experience of Ken Russell.
The confusion came for me when CBB came on at the same time as SS bonus tracks (where they go behind the scenes). I managed to flick between them to see the major upsets in BB but I did miss out on some things and I am now trying to catch up.
So in SS Elaine Lordan has gone out and either Leanne or Kelly from corrie goes out tonight. In CBB the house has been split with a nice house and not nice house. The nice side of the house has now become Jade Goody's family house and all the other house mates in the not so nice house are to be her servants.
I am so glad that the live streaming goes off at 3 as It would be a dilemna over the Match and the Streaming!

And so the story ends...

It was the last ever Green Wing last night and I really enjoyed it.
I have to say I was shouting at the screen when Caroline was going to marry Guy - NOooooooooo! but when Guy told Caroline she had to marry Mac it was wonderful. Obviously as it is Green Wing it wouldn't be a complete fairy tale. Why Caroline would have that Sue White as her Bridesmaid in real life I don't know considering that White even tried to inseminate herself in an earlier episode to have Mac's baby.
When Martin stepped up halfway through the service I was there with him - Now we will never know Mac's real name..Or if he even has one
The other main story of the end was of Joanna and Dr Statham or Cherry and Merl as they called themselves. On the run from the Police in the stolen camper van - A beautiful end as they walked hand in hand naked into the sea.
Who really didn't see it coming at the very end of the show as Caroline was lifted off the ground by the bunch of balloons she was holding as Mac went off to get her a piece of cake. A hilarious ending to a very hilarious show.
I have to admit I didn't watch every single episode of Green Wing but I will miss it...maybe in 10 years they will do a reunion show too...

Torchwood End of Season finale...

Oh my god! I seriously can't wait for Dr Who to start now...As if I could in the first place.
I am no good at show reviews...I don't know the right words to say or anything but I really enjoyed the whole 2 eps. Especially the meeting between Captain Jack and his namesake. I thought that whole scenario was done beautifully. Well done Mr RTD.
I don't know if I was the only one but all the hairs stood up on the back of my neck when Jack said "...the right kind of doctor" and then you heard it - that familiar sound of the TARDIS - then Jack was gone and we all know where he is but the rest of them left behind have no idea at all.

I know this is a bit random but I am sitting here listening to JK and Joel's Best of My Tunes and they are playing Lily Allen's Alfie....WHAT THE F*** is that?! The pathetic horn sound in the middle of it ruins the whole flow of the song. I can't even see what is so bad about singing the word weed anyway!!!
I would rather they not play tracks than ruin them with such stupid editing. I am sure I could have edited it a hell of a lot better than that.
